The Radial Model
In “The Radial Model,” we intervened in an early 1950s Chicago Planning Commission document that originally described a theoretical “Geographic Pattern of Redevelopment” of the city. Interested in the ways in which the graphic expressed the assumptions and self-fulfilling aspects of urban design, we inserted an alternate text that examines the life cycle of the city through episodes of demolition and construction, connecting these cycles to human sustenance and resilience.
